Stokesay Ware Masterclass

Stokesay Ware was established in 1981 by Karen Griffiths MDes(RCA) when she graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Masters Degree in ceramics. At that time the country was in deep recession and jobs in the ceramic industry were hard to find. Stokesay Ware was intended as temporary venture, but as business quickly grew, she was joined by her husband and partner, Peter Armstrong, a history graduate.

Stokesay Ware specialises in making a wide range of finely detailed and accurately scaled miniature table, kitchen and decorative china for dolls houses and is aimed at the adult collector. It is made from the same materials and in the same way as the full sized originals, fired in the kiln and decorated with 22k gold and coloured enamels. A common scale of 1 inch = 1 foot has been adopted world wide, and consequently Stokesay Ware can be found in public and private collections in more than 25 countries.

Karen is responsible for the creative input, making the original models by hand from which she makes the working moulds. She designs and draws the artwork for the patterns, tailoring the drawings to fit each individual piece. These are reduced and silk screen printed in coloured glass enamels capable of withstanding the heat of the kiln. As a result, everything in the Stokesay Ware range is unique and will not be found elsewhere.

Karen and Peter work from their studio in North London and regularly exhibit at doll’s house shows throughout the UK, Europe and North America.
