When I speak to regular visitors at our shows, the one thing they always say is So many of the best makers are retiring, what are we going to do? I immediately reply that there is no need to panic because, although these makers can never be replaced, as their work is so unique, there are many talented new makers coming onto the scene with their own beautiful creations.
The best part of my job is finding the new craftsmen that we bring to the shows each year. The Festival in May will be a great example of this, as we have recently had an influx of furniture makers contacting us. I have not known a year like this since I took over the show in 2005. Their work is so varied & original & the standard as high as anything we have seen in previous years.
Here is a list of some of the furniture makers that will be attending the show on May 11th & 12th. Most listed are new to the KDF, but some have attended in previous years.
ARJEN SPINHOVEN MINIATUREN
Based in The Netherlands, Arjens furniture is beautifully made, incorporating modern & traditional techniques. I love her curvy Art Nouveau designs, but she makes furniture & accessories from all periods & in all scales.
ARTESANO PEDRO HIERRO
Spanish maker Pedro Hierro is an expert metalworker. Not only does he make the most unusual metalwork furniture, but also gorgeous railings & other decorative items.
David is a young Spanish maker who has been exhibiting at the KDF Summer Show since 2012. His stunning marquetry furniture is always a must to see & has been bought by collectors & museums from around the world.
Fernando is another young talented maker from Spain. He attended the KDF Summer Show for the 1st time last year. His work is beautiful & the place to go to for 20th Century classic designs, all perfectly recreated in 1:12 scale.
The Spanish are definitely doing something right as we have another furniture maker from Spain attending the show for the 1st time this May. Francisco & Josela have been making miniatures for 24 years & this shows in their perfect reproductions of unusual pieces of furniture from many eras.
HESSEBORN FINE MINIATURES
Elisabet recreates her love for Swedish Gustavian furniture in miniature. She is one of our new exhibitors at the show in May, travelling all the way from Sweden to be with us.
ONE TWELFTH SCALE
John Macauley has started making furniture relatively recently. He concentrates on classic shaker designs as well as newer designs from the Arts & Crafts & Art Nouveau eras. All of his work is meticulously researched before being lovingly recreating in miniature
An incredibly talented new maker from Belgium. All his furniture is hand carved & finished giving a truly authentic look. Yosh focuses on French, English & Swedish styles.
These are just a few of the awe-inspiring craftsmen who will be attending the show on May 11th & 12th at Kensington Town Hall.
