2010 Summer Workshops

Our workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part this year. There are no workshops taking place at the Christmas Festival & at this point we are not sure whether we will hold workshops in May 2011, but we will update this page as soon as we have news.  Please see below the workshops that took place at the May Festival.

1TRon Hubble - Decorate & finish a gilt pier table

Using one of Ron's original designs, learn how to decorate the table, finishing with a marble & mica gold effect. Visit website.

6TMicrodolls - Mould a baby fairy

Daniela Kiefhaber is teaching her first workshop at the KDF. She will show you how to sculpt a tiny baby from polymer clay, then paint her & add some fragile wings & a fluff of hair. Visit website.

Jose is a regular at the KDF workshops & always busy. In the 1st of his workshops he will show you how to make a leather hatbox, with straps, handle, hinged lid, in your choice of colour.

Christmas Festival 2010

We are still finalizing plans for the Christmas Festival, so have no details for other events taking place at the moment, but below you can see all the activies that took place at the Summer Show.

KDF Tour to Windsor Castle

SOLD OUT

Following the success of our "Miniaturists Tour of East London" last year, we have arranged a great day out at Windsor Castle, with a special visit to Queen Mary's Dolls house.

Taking place on Thursday 13th May, you will be taken to Windsor Castle by coach from a meeting point in Kensington, once there, you will have a private talk from one of the curators of the castle, then the chance to study the dolls house itself in detail. There will be time for lunch & free time to explore the rest of the Castle before travelling back to Kensington by coach.

We will, once again, be holding talks on Sunday 16th May. These are free to everyone who visits the Festival.

Martin Butler of SWP - LED Lighting

The age of battery-powered doll’s house lighting is here now! 

LEDs offer an apparent perfect combination of high brightness white light with very low power consumption. However, using LEDs is not as straightforward as for traditional bulbs, and some knowledge of their strengths, weaknesses and electrical needs is essential.  Martin’s talk will give you enough information to successfully use this new technology in your lighting designs.

Kevin Mulvany & Susan Rogers will talk you through their latest work, including 18th Century Chateau Antoniette, Bishop's House & their most recent project for a US Museum.

Beth Clackett of the Royal Collections will talk about the amazing story of Queen Mary's Dolls house.

Thomas Plant, Director of Special Auctions Ltd & regular expert on BBC’s Bargain Hunt & Flog it!, will advise on buying dolls houses at Auction, what to look out for when buying a dolls house & what makes a dolls house valuable.

Children's Activities:

MOUSE HUNT

2010 prize for Mouse Hunt by Fine Design

Open to children of all ages - hunt for the hidden mice around the Festival & maybe you will win a prize

CHILDREN'S CRAFT CLUB
Make a miniature of your own for your dolls house. Visit the 'Gingerbread House' where you can make & decorate a 3 panel screen yourself, or try one of the other exciting projects available.
